Random post is random, but I keep thinking about this. And do think that it is a good thing to be thinking about.
As most of you know, my dad is career Army. He's been on about four or five tours in Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan, all of varying lengths. He got home just last month after a six month stint in Kuwait. Things over there are much better than they were a few years ago, in the scheme of getting things settled for the soldiers and getting them the things they need. However, they still need (and very much appreciate) getting packages of necessities and extras from the states. And some of these soldiers don't really have anyone sending things over. It really is such a good way to lift the spirits of the soldiers, getting a package.
I'm sure you've all seen this stuff before, but trust me, it really is one of the best things you can do for these people, if at all possible. They're thousands of miles from home in a war zone. It's sort of a 'pet project' of mine, if you really want to put a title to it. I'll cut the list (which I totally stole from another site) of suggested items to send, if any of you want to give this a serious thought. You can adopt a soldier from any number of organizations, whether it's the USO or local organizations. Plus, you go to the post office and tell them you need a APO/AE flat rate box. The boxes are free, and they will mail them for like...$12. So get one, stuff it full of stuff, and send it to someone. That's easy enough, right?
( LIST BELOW, YO )
And with that, I'm done being all preachy, or whatever. I just felt I should get this out. If it gets even ONE person on my f-page to get a box together and send it, then it's well worth it.
